Gum doctor

A gum doctor is not a dentist at all, although most people are convinced. Previously, in the CIS countries, one specialist was indeed a “panacea” for everything: he was tearing his teeth, treating them, relieving excessive sensitivity and observing gums.

Gum pain problem

Now there are many new, more effective techniques, methods and methods of treatment, and the old methods have sunk into oblivion. Moreover, each individual region has acquired so many different nuances that one person can no longer master them. Therefore, now only for the treatment of gums there are three types of doctors: a hygienist, a periodontist and a periodontist-surgeon.

When do you need a hygienist?

Everyone knows: proper oral care is the best we can give to our body. But unfortunately, not even one of the most experienced doctors will be able to rid you of illnesses once and for all. And even the seal is short-lived. It would seem that nothing was left of the tooth, there was nothing to hurt, but there are some nuances. For example, a filling material has a specific shelf life. Moreover, even before its expiration, the seal may simply wear out.

Visit to the hygienist for gum painIt is the dental hygienist who knows all the nuances of such care. He will determine the root of the problem, replace the seal, and carry out professional toothbrushing. In addition, a hygienist is a doctor who treats gums. He is not engaged in the actual treatment, but in monitoring the condition of the oral cavity. It is to him that he should come for a routine examination and for recommendations on care.

His responsibilities include teaching the patient the proper care of teeth and gums, telling, if necessary, how to brush teeth correctly, notify which toothpaste should be chosen and what to look for. A hygienist carefully examines a person’s teeth and gums, tests enamel for strength and has the right to brush and whiten teeth at the request of the patient. If serious defects are found, he sends the patient to another specialist.

It is worth contacting him if there are no special problems in his mouth, and occasionally some worries arise. In the case of gums, this is a slight bleeding when chewing food, which is not repeated so often, their slight swaying or inflammation, the presence of an unpleasant odor. This disease is called mild gingivitis. In most cases, the services of such a doctor are paid, since he does not participate in the treatment of any serious diseases, but takes care of the patient’s appearance.

Often this specialist does not have his own full-fledged office, but works as an assistant with a regular dentist, performing the same functions. If there is no such specialist in the hospital to which you are attached, he will be replaced by a general practitioner.

When do you need a periodontist?

Dental splinting scheme

A periodontist is a specialist who treats all diseases associated with periodontal disease that holds the tooth in place. Simply put, this is a person who takes care of the tissues surrounding the teeth, that is, the gums. You can contact him for the purpose of routine inspection. Like the previous specialist, he will give you a full consultation on what to do with your teeth. But still he specializes in more obvious problems, so he may not even notice the first signs of a future illness.

But this doctor professionally examines the oral cavity and quickly identifies the cause of the disease that has already begun. He specializes in mild and moderate diseases of the gums and tooth roots. It will help to remove plaque and remove tartar, eliminate gum inflammation, and make teeth depulatory. You should contact him for splinting – a special procedure for strengthening teeth, prosthetics and preventive examination.

He will assist in the following cases:

  • gums bleed while eating hard foods and brushing your teeth;
  • the gums are red or swollen;
  • exposure of the tooth neck;
  • bad taste in the mouth and a nasty, pungent odor;
  • teeth bent forward or backward;
  • they stagger regularly;
  • the gums seemed to slide a little down;
  • instead of pink or red, they have acquired a bluish color.

A visit to a periodontist-surgeon for gum diseaseBut a periodontist will not help in all cases.

If you have brought your oral cavity to a terrible state, in which the teeth are barely kept “on the string”, and you can’t bite off a ripe apple, you will need a periodontist-surgeon.

He manages complex diseases, conducts various operations, etc.

Periodically, the same person is responsible for these two areas.

If the patient suffers from any serious illness, the solution to his problem will cause great difficulties.

To restore teeth weakened as a result of the disease, you must first eliminate the disease itself.

Folk remedies

If there is no opportunity to consult a specialist, you can become a doctor yourself. For this, folk remedies will come in handy:

Sea salt for gum pain

  1. An excellent option would be ordinary sea salt. It is especially effective if gum problems are due to pregnancy. Take 3 tbsp. l salt and grind to a powder. An ordinary coffee grinder will help with this. After that, take 2 tbsp. l dried and chopped banana peel and mix with salt. Then pour some olive oil into the mixture. Shuffle. The medicine should be rubbed into inflamed places and left for 10 minutes without swallowing saliva. Then spit everything that has accumulated.
  2. Peel the beets and rub them on a fine grater. Then mix it with 1 tbsp. l sunflower oil. Apply the medicine to the sore gums and leave for 30 minutes. After that, rinse your mouth with a decoction made of chamomile and oak root.
  3. Another recipe assumes you have previously dried roots of banana, galangal and 5 bags of cloves from the store. Put it all in a coffee grinder and grind it to a powder. After that, mix it with tooth powder in a ratio of 1: 1. Apply it to the gums twice a day, wait 5 minutes and brush it with your teeth.
  4. There is another way: take a handful of pre-dried alder cones and chop them. Then pour in 1 cup of boiling water. Close the medicine with a lid and leave it like that for 1 hour. After that, use a rinse.
  5. Using a water bath, melt 75 g of wax and mix it with 5 drops of peppermint essential oil, 2 drops of lemon juice, 1 tbsp. l honey. Mix all the ingredients until they turn into a homogeneous mass. After that, leave the medicine to cool. When it cools, make small balls and use them as chewing gum 3-4 times a day.
  6. You can dissolve 3 g of mummy in 100 g of water and use the resulting rinse 2 times a day. It is necessary to be treated this way for 3 or 4 weeks.

Prevention of gum problems

Steps for Proper BrushingIn order to never see a doctor at all, except, perhaps, a hygienist, it is enough to simply observe a few rules:

  1. Do not forget to brush your teeth regularly. Any dentist will repeat this truth practically word for word. Any attempts to skip cleaning will be perceived by our body as an insult. And later, at a venerable age, you will regret using the false jaw. Do not overdo it. For some reason, people, having learned that they have a problem with gums or teeth, begin to furiously brush their teeth, almost tearing the oral cavity into the blood. And it only makes it worse. Not only will the gum become more inflamed, but the enamel can be damaged.
  2. Try to consume more vitamin C. It favorably affects both the teeth and the body as a whole. You can be treated independently, leaning on vitamins, or you can seek the help of a therapist so that he prescribes the necessary vitamin complex for you.
