Starting next month, eyecare providers who own a Heidelberg Anterion OCT will be able to add a module to their devices that enables precise measurement and mapping of the epithelium and stroma. As the latest addition to the device’s “Cornea App,” the epithelial thickness module is designed to aid in pre- and postoperative assessments for refractive procedures, as well as in the diagnosis and monitoring of corneal diseases such as keratoconus, the company says.

Heidelberg also notes on its website that the module can generate thickness maps and measurements for the residual stroma.
Another complimentary feature recently added to the Anterion OCT, called “ectasia view,” helps track changes in the cornea over time. This tool may be particularly useful for conditions like keratoconus, as it organizes data from multiple patient visits into a single dashboard, according to Heidelberg.
Anterion OCT users will be able to integrate the epithelial thickness module into their devices through a simple software update, expected to become available this February.
